When a green ogre named Shrek learns that the cunning Lord Farquaad has "swamped" his swamp with a variety of fairytale animals, Shrek sets off with a very noisy donkey at his side to "persuade" Farquaad to return Shrek's swamp. A contract is formed in its place. Princess Fiona is hiding out in a tower under the protection of a fire-breathing dragon while waiting for her true love, and Farquaad, who wants to become the King, sends Shrek to retrieve her. However, as they return with Fiona, it becomes clear that not only is the beautiful princess falling for the hideous ogre Shrek, but that Fiona is also keeping a very big secret.
